The holidays are a happy time for many people, but for those
in recovery it is often quite the opposite. In fact, individuals struggling
with addiction often dread the
holidays. Stress is at an all-time high during the holidays and for people
grappling with addiction it can accelerate the relapse process. To prevent
relapse, it’s important for individuals in recovery to have a stress free
holiday plan. This plan can include: developing a sober escape plan for all activities,
saying “no” and not feeling obligated to attend holiday events and volunteering
to help others less fortunate.
